Anyone else have small bubbles coming out of return jets?

I see tiny bubbles coming out of my jets every time the pump is on. The pool runs fine otherwise but it makes me think there’s air getting in somewhere. Is that normal or a problem.

I’ve had that too! It was just an air leak at the pump lid. Replaced the gasket and the bubbles stopped. So, check the pump seals first!

I’ve noticed that before too. Tiny bubbles from the return jets almost always mean air is getting in somewhere on the suction side. In my case, it was just the pump lid gasket, replacing it stopped all the bubbles.

Other things to check if replacing the gasket doesn’t fix it:
  • Loose unions or fittings on the suction line
  • Cracks in the pipe before the pump
  • Skimmer or suction valves that aren’t fully sealed
Once you seal the air leak, the return jets should flow clear with no bubbles.

Yep, those tiny bubbles almost always mean air is sneaking in somewhere on the suction side. The most common culprit is the pump lid gasket, check it for cracks or misalignment. Other things to inspect if the gasket looks fine:
  • Loose unions or fittings on the suction line
  • Cracks in the pipe before the pump
  • Skimmer or suction valves not fully sealed
Once you track down and seal the air leak, the bubbles from the return jets should disappear.

I had the same issue a while back. Tiny bubbles from the return jets are almost always a sign of air getting in somewhere on the suction side. For me, it was the pump lid gasket, once I replaced it, the bubbles completely stopped.

If you’ve already checked the gasket, I’d also take a look at:
  • Any loose unions or fittings on the suction line
  • Small cracks in the pipe before the pump
  • Skimmer or suction valves that aren’t fully sealed
Once the air leak is sealed, your return jets should flow clear again.

I had the same thing happen and thought it was normal at first, but it turned out to be a tiny air leak I couldn’t see. In my case, the drain plug on the pump was letting a little air in, I wrapped the threads with Teflon tape, tightened it up, and the bubbles disappeared.

If that’s not it, also check the skimmer connection and the water level. When the water sits just below the skimmer opening, it can pull in air and cause fine bubbles through the jets even if everything else looks sealed. After topping up the pool a bit, mine ran completely clear.
