Anyone notice their pool level slowly dropping even when it hasn’t been hot?

I’ve been keeping an eye on my pool level lately and noticed it seems to drop a little every few days. Normally I’d assume it’s just evaporation, but the weather hasn’t been that hot lately.
There’s no obvious puddles around the equipment and I don’t see water leaking anywhere near the pump or filter area. I’m not sure if I’m just paying more attention than usual or if this could be an early sign of a small leak somewhere. How much water loss is actually considered normal?

A small drop over a few days can still be evaporation, especially if it’s windy where you are. Wind can pull moisture off the surface faster than heat sometimes. I usually notice my level drop a bit after a few breezy days.

If you want to check whether it’s a leak or evaporation, try the bucket test. Fill a bucket with pool water and set it on the pool step so the water level inside matches the pool level outside. After a day or two compare them. If the pool drops more than the bucket then you might be dealing with a leak.

Check around the skimmer area. I had a tiny crack around mine that I didn’t notice at first. The water level would slowly drop until it got just below the skimmer opening, then it would stop. Took me a while to figure that one out.

The bucket test sounds like a good idea. I’ll try that this weekend so I can tell whether it’s just evaporation or something else. Hopefully it’s just the wind like you mentioned. Thanks for the tips.
