Anyone regret where they placed their pool equipment pad?

I’m in the middle of planning a small pool setup in the backyard and trying to decide where the equipment pad should go. Part of me wants to put it close to the pool so plumbing runs are shorter, but that also means the pump and equipment will be pretty close to the seating area. The other option is placing it farther back along the fence line where it would be less noticeable. For those of you who already have pools, is there anything you wish you had done differently with equipment placement?

Noise was the biggest thing for me. My equipment ended up closer to the patio than I expected and you definitely hear it when you’re sitting outside. It’s not terrible, but if I could redo it I’d probably move it a little farther away.

Access is another thing people forget about. Make sure there’s enough space around the equipment to work on it later. My neighbor put his right against the fence and now servicing anything back there is a pain.

Think about drainage too. My equipment pad is slightly lower than the rest of the yard and after heavy rain that area gets muddy. If you can put it somewhere slightly elevated it’ll make maintenance easier long term.

Those are good points, especially about access and drainage. I was mostly thinking about plumbing distance but didn’t really consider how often the equipment might need servicing later. I’ll probably shift the pad a bit farther from the patio now. Thanks for the insight.
