Do you guys store pool chemicals indoors or outside?

Hey all, Quick question where’s the best place to store your pool chemicals? Right now, I’ve got mine in the garage but I’m wondering if the heat/humidity is messing them up. I’ve heard some people keep them in outdoor storage bins, but is that safe? Would love to know what’s working for you all.

I used to keep mine in the garage too, but the chlorine smell started rusting nearby tools. Now I use a weatherproof deck box outside, away from direct sunlight and rain. Just make sure it’s locked up tight if you’ve got kids or pets around. So far, no issues with moisture or fumes.

I’ve kept mine in the garage too, but yeah, it gets super hot in there mid-summer, and I started noticing the chlorine smell getting way stronger. Now I've got a small plastic shed out back, nothing fancy,

Just keeps stuff dry + shaded. I keep the lid cracked a bit for airflow and make sure everything’s sealed tight. Haven’t had any issues since. Just wouldn’t mix different types of chemicals in one bin, that’s where things can get sketchy.

I ended up hacking an old wooden crate into a little chemical cabinet painted it with weatherproof sealant and rigged a small vent at the back. It lives under my deck, so it’s shaded, and the airflow keeps fumes down. Plus, if I ever need to move it, it’s on casters, so I just roll it out of the way!

I actually converted an old wooden crate into a mini chemical chest sealed it with outdoor varnish, drilled a few tiny vents, and popped it under my deck. Keeps everything dry, shaded, and the fumes out. Plus, I put it on little wheels so I can roll it away if I need to tidy up!

I used to stash my chemicals in a plastic bin under the carport, but humidity was still a pain. What finally worked for me was grabbing a cheap metal locker from a thrift store and drilling a few tiny ventilation holes up high. I lined the shelf with a cheap rubber mat any spills just wipe right up, and the locker keeps the fumes locked in. Plus, it locks with a padlock so the kids can’t get in. Might be worth a look!

I’ve been keeping mine in a shaded corner of the backyard inside a small metal cabinet I picked up secondhand. I added a latch and a few small holes near the top for airflow. It’s far enough from the house to avoid any strong fumes drifting in, and everything stays dry even during storms. Definitely feels safer than leaving them in the garage with all the summer heat.

My garage heat + chlorine fumes once rusted my bike chain.I moved everything to a lockable wheeled deck box outside two separate totes (oxidizers vs acids), a cheap temp/humidity sensor, and a tiny spill kit. Zero rust since. Might be a comfy setup for you too?

I used to keep all my chemicals in the garage too until I noticed the metal shelving starting to corrode a bit 😬. Now I keep them in a small outdoor shed under some shade, with a vent near the top for airflow. I separate the chlorine from the acids and keep everything in sealed containers. Way less smell, and it feels safer overall. Just make sure whatever setup you use stays dry, humidity is the real troublemaker.

Most of us keep chemicals outside these days, usually in a shaded, ventilated deck box or small shed. The key is:
  • Keep them off the ground and dry.
  • Separate chlorine from acids.
  • Make sure the storage is locked if kids or pets are around.
  • Ventilation helps prevent fumes and moisture buildup.
Garages are convenient but can get too hot and humid, which shortens chemical life and can corrode tools or shelving.

I used to store mine in the garage too, but the heat and humidity really can mess with them over time. What’s worked best for me is a lockable outdoor storage bin with some airflow, kept in a shaded spot, as long as it’s secure and away from kids and pets, it’s been much better.
