Do you run your pool pump during backyard parties or turn it off?

Had a few friends over last weekend for a small pool party and something crossed my mind while we were all hanging out in the water. I normally run my pump on a schedule during the day, but while everyone was swimming the return jets were pushing the floaties around and splashing people sitting near them. It made me wonder if most people leave their pump running during gatherings or just pause it for a few hours.
I ended up leaving it on, but now I’m curious what others usually do when the pool is full of people.

I usually leave mine running. When you’ve got a lot of people in the pool the water gets stirred up anyway so having circulation going helps keep everything moving instead of letting stuff settle.

I turn mine off during parties sometimes, mostly because of the noise. When people are sitting around talking near the pool the pump hum can be a little annoying. I just start it back up once everyone leaves.

I keep mine on but lower the speed if it’s a variable speed pump. That way there’s still some circulation but the returns aren’t pushing water around too aggressively while people are swimming.

Lowering the speed actually sounds like a good middle ground. Mine does have a lower setting that I never really use. I might try that next time instead of running it full power during a get together.
