Does saltwater really feel better on your skin?

Yep, same here! I switched to salt water a couple of seasons ago, and my skin felt way less dry after swimming. Didn’t expect to notice that much of a difference, but it’s real.

Also feels easier on the eyes, too and way less sting compared to the chlorine setup I had before. Honestly wish I’d made the switch sooner.

I switched to salt this year and my skin feels softer. Anyone else notice that?
Yeah, I noticed the same thing when I switched. Saltwater pools have lower chlorine levels overall and the water feels smoother, not as harsh. My skin and eyes are definitely less irritated now. It’s one of the best changes I made to my pool.

Totally agree. I switched a couple of years ago and it’s way gentler on my skin, especially compared to how dry I felt after swimming in a regular chlorine pool. Plus, I feel like the water smells cleaner too. Just keep your salt levels balanced and it stays nice.

Same here it’s a noticeable difference. I used to get itchy skin after swimming but saltwater feels way softer. Some people don’t notice much, but for me it made swimming a lot more comfortable. Bonus: no strong chlorine smell anymore either.

Funny thing, I didn’t expect to feel much difference, but I noticed it more after the swim than during. Like, usually after being in a pool, my arms would get kinda blotchy or feel tight once I dried off. With the salt setup, that just... didn’t happen.

Not sure if it’s the lower chemical load or just how the water interacts with skin, but yeah, it feels a bit more “neutral,” if that makes sense. Nothing dramatic while you’re in the pool, but way less annoying afterwards.

It's great to hear that others are noticing the benefits of switching to saltwater. Aside from the skin feeling softer, another important advantage is the reduced chemical load in the water, which can also be better for the environment. While saltwater pools are often perceived as low maintenance, it’s still important to regularly check your salt levels, pH, and alkalinity. Over time, this can save on some of the skin irritation and strong chemical smells associated with chlorine pools. Just be sure to stay on top of the balance to keep everything running smoothly.

At first, many didn’t expect much difference after switching to a saltwater pool. But once they tried, most noticed their skin felt softer and less dry compared to using chlorine. Hair felt healthier, eyes no longer stung, and irritation was reduced. As a bonus, the strong chlorine smell was gone, replaced by water that felt fresher and cleaner.

I’ve heard that saltwater pools are much gentler on the skin, but I’m curious about how they compare over time. Does anyone find that their skin stays softer even after long periods of swimming? I’m thinking about switching, but wondering if the difference stays noticeable in the long run."

Oh yeah, I noticed it immediately after switching to a saltwater setup. My skin doesn’t feel tight or itchy like it used to after chlorine swims, and my hair feels softer too. I didn’t expect a big difference at first, but it’s there once you step out of the pool.

Also, the eyes sting way less. I can swim longer without feeling that burn, which is a nice bonus. I think it’s mostly the lower chemical load that makes it gentler, but it does make swimming more comfortable overall. Just make sure you keep your salt levels balanced, because that seems to make the biggest difference in how the water feels on your skin.

I think part of what makes saltwater feel different on the skin is the way the water leaves a slight “silky” finish when you dry off. It doesn’t have that harsh stripped feeling you sometimes get from chlorine, so the skin holds on to a bit more of its natural moisture.

I also noticed that after swimming in saltwater, I don’t feel the need to jump straight in the shower just to wash off a strong chemical scent. The water feels more natural overall, and that little change actually makes a big difference in how refreshed you feel afterwards.

I noticed it too, but not in the way I expected. While swimming, it didn’t feel dramatically different to me. The real difference showed up after getting out. Normally my skin would feel tight or slightly chalky once I dried off, especially on my arms and legs. With the salt system, that dry feeling just doesn’t really happen anymore.

I also think consistency plays a role. Because the chlorine level is being generated steadily instead of spiking up and down, my skin isn’t getting hit with those harsher moments. Even after longer swims, I don’t feel like I need lotion right away.

It’s not magic water or anything, but over time it’s definitely gentler. If someone swims a lot, that subtle difference adds up more than you’d expect.

Yep, a lot of people notice softer skin on saltwater, usually because the salinity is only around 3000 to 3500 ppm so the water feels a bit silkier and the chlorine output is steadier so you get fewer chloramines, just keep an eye on pH drift upward and keep free chlorine matched to your CYA so it stays comfortable and doesn’t dry you out.
