Filter pressure jumps right after cleaning then settles down.

Something I’ve noticed a few times now. After I clean my filter and start the system back up, the pressure gauge initially reads higher than it did before cleaning. After running for a bit it slowly drops back down to normal. It doesn’t cause issues but it feels backwards. Anyone know why that happens?

I’ve seen that too. In my case it was air trapped in the system right after startup. Once the air worked its way out the pressure settled back to where it should be.

Could also be how tight everything is after reassembly. When I overtightened the clamp once pressure spiked briefly until things normalized. Now I snug it evenly and don’t see that jump anymore.

If you have a multiport valve, check that it’s fully locked into position. Mine wasn’t seated all the way once and caused weird pressure behavior until I reset it.

That makes sense, especially the trapped air idea. It always seems to calm down after a while. I’ll keep an eye on how I reassemble things next time. Thanks for the explanations.

I’ve had that happen too, and in my case it was the media still being tightly packed right after cleaning. When the system first starts, the flow is slightly restricted because everything hasn’t settled yet, so pressure reads higher. After a few minutes, once the flow evens out and fine particles redistribute, the pressure drops back to normal. As long as it trends downward and doesn’t keep climbing, I consider that normal behavior.
