Gas heater or heat pump—what’s actually better for keeping pool water warm?

I’m thinking of adding something to keep my pool warm during the cooler months, but I keep going back and forth. Gas sounds fast, but maybe pricey over time? Heat pump seems cheaper to run, but I’ve heard it takes forever to heat up. I’m in an area where spring and fall aren’t freezing, but still not warm enough to swim without some help.
