It can be normal, heat pumps are built to heat slowly over long run times, so if nights are cool, wind is high, humidity is low, or you are not using a cover, you can lose a lot of heat at the surface and the unit may run most of the day just to hold 82°F, what I check first is basic flow and restriction (clean filter, valves fully open), the outdoor coil and airflow clearance, and whether the water temperature is rising steadily even if slowly, and also compare daytime versus nighttime run time since nighttime heat loss is usually the big drain, if it cannot hold setpoint even during warm daytime conditions then it may be undersized, airflow restricted, or losing performance, and to avoid scale buildup inside the heat exchanger that can hurt efficiency I usually use the AquaDoc Eagle Ray Digital Water Testing Kit to help me keep pH and calcium in a safe range.
