How do I clean biofilm from a spa?

I think my spa might have biofilm buildup because the water feels slimy and cloudy no matter how much I sanitize it. I’ve cleaned the filter and shocked the water, but it always comes back after a few days. What’s the best way to get rid of biofilm completely?

That definitely sounds like biofilm. It hides in the plumbing lines where sanitizer can’t reach. Use a line flush product like AquaDoc Spa Purge before draining. Let it circulate for a few hours with jets on then drain and refill. You’ll see a lot of gunk come out the first time, but it works great.

I had the same issue. Shocking the water alone doesn’t help much because the film sticks inside the pipes. Run a pipe cleaner through your system every 3-4 months. After that, replace or clean your filters and start fresh with balanced water.

Make sure your water is hot when you use the purge. The heat helps loosen up the buildup. I run mine for a couple of hours at 100°F, then drain and rinse well. Since I started doing that, my spa stays clean way longer.

Thanks for the advice! I’ll grab the AquaDoc Spa Purge and run it hot before draining. Sounds like that should finally get rid of the slimy buildup for good.

I’ve dealt with stubborn biofilm too. What really helped was running a purge while the water was hot, letting the jets run for a few hours, then draining and rinsing. Since doing that, my spa water’s been way more stable.
