How do you guys balance pool care with a busy schedule?

Hey all, Curious how some of you manage your pool maintenance when life gets busy. Between work and kids, I sometimes go a week without checking chemicals, and then I’m scrambling to fix cloudy water or low chlorine. Do you follow a strict maintenance schedule or just deal with stuff when problems pop up? Any hacks to make it easier to stay on top of things without spending hours each week?

Totally get where you’re coming from. I set calendar reminders for testing and quick skimming twice a week, and I use a smart chlorinator that keeps chlorine levels steady between checks. Also switched to a robotic vacuum, which saves me a ton of time on cleaning. If you automate the basics, you only have to do the deep stuff every couple of weeks.

Honestly? I just do the bare minimum during crazy weeks. I set a reminder on my phone to at least check chlorine and pH every Sunday, even if I don’t have time to vacuum or clean the filter. Got a floater with tabs that helps a lot when I forget.

Also switched to a robot cleaner last year, total game changer. Not perfect, but it keeps the bottom clean so I don’t fall too far behind. If stuff looks off, I just fix it as I go. Strict schedules never worked for me.

Same here, man, with work and kids, it’s tough to stay on top of everything. I’ve stopped trying to be perfect and just aim for “good enough” most weeks. I set a reminder to check levels every Sunday morning, just a quick test, nothing fancy. Also got one of those floating chlorinators, which helps when I forget.

The biggest game changer for me was getting a robot cleaner. It doesn’t fix water balance obviously, but at least keeps the gunk off the bottom so I’m not vacuuming all the time. Just doing small stuff consistently makes it way less stressful.

I’ve started treating my pool like a plant just a quick check-in every few days, give it a little love, and make sure it’s still thriving. If I forget a day, I just tell myself it’s a ‘pool spa day’ and leave it to its own devices for a bit. Anyone else give their pool a little ‘me-time’ now and then?

I like to think of my pool as a tiny spa it gets a quick checkup every couple of days, and I make sure to ‘pamper’ it with extra care every now and then. Anyone else feel like they’re treating their pool to a little vacation?

I set a recurring 15-minute ‘pool power hour’ every Sunday morning—test, skim, adjust. My phone reminds me, and I’m done before the week even starts. No more midweek scrambling.

I get it some weeks I barely remember to eat lunch, let alone test pool chemistry! So now I pair my Sunday coffee with a two-minute strip check: sip, dip, read, done. No fancy schedule, just a little ritual that keeps my water clear and my brain sane.

I keep a small ‘pool cheat sheet’ taped inside my skimmer lid with quick checks and dosages. That way, even if I’m in a rush, I can do the essentials without overthinking it.

I was drowning in upkeep until I made a 5-minute rule: Wed/Sun I stroll by, log FC/pH + filter PSI. If FC >2 ppm low or PSI +8, I act; if not, I walk away. Guilt gone, pool happy. What would your two triggers be?

I’ve totally been there! Life gets busy, and the pool maintenance often gets pushed to the side. One week, I went a bit too long without checking, and by the time I realized, the water was cloudy, and the pH was all over the place. So now, I’ve made it a habit to set a quick 10-minute reminder on my phone every Sunday to check the water levels. I also keep a few pool tablets floating around in the water so that it stays cleaner between checkups. I don’t follow a strict schedule, but these small things keep the pool in check without a lot of stress. It’s kind of like doing the small stuff before it turns into a big issue!
