How do you know when it's time to replace your pool filter sand?

I've had the same sand in my filter for about 5 years. The pressure seems okay, but the water isn’t as clear as it used to be, even with proper chemistry. How do you tell when the sand’s just not doing its job anymore?

Mine started looking cloudy after a few years too. If the pressure’s fine but the water isn’t as clear as it used to be, that’s usually a sign the sand’s worn out and not filtering like it should. I replaced mine and it made a big difference.

I had the same thing happen. If the pressure’s normal but the water isn’t as clear as it used to be, that’s usually a sign the sand isn’t filtering well anymore. Replacing it made the water look way better.

If the pressure’s normal but the water’s still cloudy, that’s usually a sign the sand isn’t filtering well anymore. Replacing it made the water look way better.

I also look at the backwash. If it gets dirty faster than it used to, that’s usually a sign the sand is starting to wear out.
