How often do you guys test your pool water?

I test once a week but sometimes I feel like I should be checking more often. Do you all test daily, weekly, or just when things look off

I check mine twice a week in summer and once a week in cooler months. It keeps me ahead of problems without going overboard.

I usually test about every 2–3 days when the weather’s hot since the sun and swimmers can change the water balance quickly. In spring or fall I stretch it to once a week unless the pool starts looking cloudy or off. I’ve learned the hard way that waiting too long can mean chasing problems later, so I’d rather catch it early with a quick test.

I love that you’re all so dedicated to keeping your pool in check! I test about once a week, but I’m thinking of testing more often, especially during the hotter months. I agree with Olivia waiting too long can lead to bigger problems later. It’s always better to catch things early! Anyone else tested daily during the peak season to keep everything crystal clear?

Same here, I usually check once a week, but during hotter weather, I try testing more often. Otherwise, problems can pop up unexpectedly.

I used to be a “once-a-week” tester too, but I started noticing that after a stretch of hot sunny days my chlorine would crash way faster than expected. Now I’ll still do my main check on weekends, but I sneak in a quick strip test mid-week just to be safe. Doesn’t take long and it’s saved me from a couple of green pool surprises.

For me, the routine depends more on how much the pool’s getting used. If there’s been a lot of swimming or a big rainstorm, I’ll test right after, even if I just did it the day before. Otherwise once a week is fine in cooler months.

Anyone here actually test daily in summer? I’ve thought about it but not sure if that’s overkill.

I’m kind of in the middle ground on this. I don’t test daily, but I don’t just wait a whole week either. What’s worked for me is setting a “baseline” check once a week with the drop kit, then slipping in a couple of quick strip tests mid-week. That way, I know if chlorine or pH is drifting before it becomes a headache.

If the pool’s getting heavy use or we’ve had a storm, I’ll usually test right after since those seem to throw things off the most. In the cooler months, though, once a week is plenty, sometimes even every 10 days if the pool is just sitting there.

I’m curious, for those who test daily in summer, do you find the readings change that much from one day to the next? Or is it more peace of mind than actual necessity?
