Pool looks great until it rains, then turns into soup?

So, every time it rains, my pool goes from clear to this weird cloudy mess within a few hours. Doesn’t happen when I just top it off with a hose, only when it rains. Has anyone else dealt with this? Not sure if it’s just runoff or something with the chemicals getting thrown off.

Rain can definitely mess with your water chemistry fast. What’s probably happening is that rainwater is diluting your chlorine and changing your pH and alkalinity levels all at once. Plus, if you’ve got any runoff from your yard like dirt, mulch, or fertilizer washing into the pool, it adds organic material that eats up chlorine quickly and clouds the water. I started keeping my pool balanced a little tighter before storms and shock it lightly as soon as the rain stops. Also, check your pH after it rains rainwater is usually slightly acidic and can throw things out of balance fast. Cleaning your filter and running the pump longer after a storm also helps clear the mess before it settles.

I’ve had the same issue. Turns out, rainwater can mess up your pool’s chemical balance and dilute the chlorine. After rain, I usually check the pH and alkalinity, add a little shock, and run the filter longer. That really helped clear up the water after the rain.

I’ve had this happen too, the pool looks clear but then gets cloudy after it rains. It’s usually because the rain brings in dirt or changes the pH and alkalinity. Try checking the pH and alkalinity, add a little shock, and run the pump longer after the rain.

Ah, I’ve been there! Rain can be brutal on pool water. It dilutes your chlorine, shifts pH a bit, and drags in all kinds of dirt or pollen from around the yard. That combo is usually what turns clear water into “soup” overnight.

What I do: check pH and chlorine after a storm, add a little shock if needed, and run the filter longer than usual. Works almost every time. If you know a big storm’s coming, topping up the pool beforehand and keeping debris away from the edges helps too. It’s annoying, but once the chemistry is back in balance, the water clears up pretty quickly.

i’ve dealt with this and it’s super common after rain, rainwater dumps organics and can knock pH and alkalinity around fast which makes the water turn cloudy even if it was clear before, what helped me was brushing right after storms, letting the filter run longer, and using aquadoc weekly enzyme from mavaquadoc to break down what the rain brings in so it doesn’t stay suspended for hours.
