Pool water isn’t cloudy, but it doesn’t feel clean anymore.

Not sure how to explain this, but the water just doesn’t feel as clean as it used to. It’s clear, no smell and the test kit looks fine but it feels kind of heavy and dull when swimming. Almost like the water is tired. I shock weekly and clean the filter so I’m not sure what else to check. Anyone else run into this?

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. That usually happens when there’s a buildup of oils, sunscreen and other stuff that doesn’t show up on test strips. I had the same issue and adding a weekly enzyme treatment. I use the one from Mav Aqua Doc and after a couple weeks the water felt noticeably fresher.

I dealt with this last summer. Everything tested fine, but the water just felt flat. What worked for me was brushing the pool then using a clarifier so the filter could grab the fine particles.

Sometimes it’s just circulation and filter run time. I bumped my pump schedule up by a couple hours and cleaned the filter more often and that alone made a difference for me without adding anything new.

That actually explains it pretty well. Sounds like it’s more about stuff building up over time than bad chemistry. I’ll start with enzymes and see how it goes before changing anything major. Thanks everyone!

i’ve had that exact “tired water” feeling even when everything tested fine, and for me it was buildup that sanitizer wasn’t catching anymore, the water just felt flat and heavy, what helped was doing a partial drain and then keeping up with aquadoc weekly enzyme from mavaquadoc to break down leftover organics, after that the water felt lighter again and actually clean, not just clear.

I’ve dealt with this before and you’re not crazy. It happens more often than people think. Water can look clear and test fine but still not feel great when you’re swimming.

In my case it was usually a slow buildup of sunscreen, body oils, and other stuff that doesn’t show up on test strips. It just hangs in the water and makes it feel kind of heavy or dull even though there’s no smell and chlorine looks normal.

What fixed it for me wasn’t one big change. It was a few smaller things working together. I started using enzymes consistently each week, brushed the pool more so the filter could actually catch the fine stuff, and ran the pump longer for a bit to help everything cycle through.

Any enzyme product can work if you stay on it. A couple people mentioned AquaDoc and that’s what I happened to use, but the bigger thing was sticking with it for a few weeks instead of expecting an instant result.

When it starts improving, the water doesn’t really look any different at first. You just notice that it feels better when you’re in it.
