My pool pump started making this deep humming sound yesterday It still runs and water is moving but the noise is way louder than before I don’t know if it’s the motor going bad or something stuck inside Should I shut it down right away or can it run like this for a bit.

That sounds like the bearings inside the motor starting to wear out Mine did the exact same thing last summer and within a couple weeks it stopped completely If it’s still moving water you can use it but I’d plan on either a rebuild or a replacement soon.

Could also just be a capacitor starting to fail My pump hummed but still turned until it finally wouldn’t start up at all Replacing the capacitor was a cheap fix before assuming the whole motor was gone Might be worth checking first.

A loud hum while it still runs usually means worn bearings; sometimes it’s just a weak capacitor. I’d shut it down and check the impeller and capacitor; if the noise stays, you should plan a rebuild or replacement before it dies.

I’ve had that deep humming noise before, and it ended up being the bearings wearing out. The pump still ran, but a few weeks later it completely died. If the noise is getting louder, I’d shut it down and plan for a rebuild or replacement.
