Pump timer seems to lose its schedule after power flickers.

Had a quick power flicker yesterday during a storm and I noticed my pump didn’t start at its usual time this morning. When I checked the timer, the clock looked like it had reset and the schedule was off. I reset everything and it’s running again now, but it made me wonder if this is common with pool pump timers.
Do most of you just reset it when this happens or is there a better way to prevent it? I’m guessing storms are going to cause this more often during the summer.

If it’s a mechanical timer, that’s pretty common. A short power outage can throw off the clock. Mine used to do that every time the power blinked. I eventually switched to a digital timer that keeps the schedule saved even if power drops for a bit.

You can also check if your timer has a small backup battery inside. Some models do and once the battery gets weak the timer resets whenever the power flickers. Replacing that battery fixed the issue on mine.

Storms can definitely mess with those timers. A friend of mine solved it by putting his pump timer on a small protector. It doesn’t stop outages, but it helps protect the electronics and keeps things a bit more stable.

Interesting about the backup battery. I didn’t even know some of these timers had one. I’ll open the panel and see if mine does before I look at replacing the whole thing. Thanks for the ideas.
