Slight leak around multiport valve after backwashing.

I noticed a tiny drip around my multiport valve right after I backwashed the filter. It’s not gushing just a steady little drip that seems to stop when the pump is off. Everything else looks normal and pressure seems fine. Should I worry about this or is it just the valve settling after cleaning?

This happened to me too. Usually it’s just the gasket inside the valve seat not fully seated after you moved it for backwashing. I made sure it was snug, checked the O ring and that solved it.

Inspect the screws that hold the handle plate. If they loosen over time, the valve can tilt slightly when pressurized and that tiny misalignment lets a drip form. Tightening evenly usually fixes it.

Mine dripped a bit until I put a thin layer of silicone on the O ring. Nothing excessive, just enough to keep it seated without overdoing it. After that I never had a leak even after multiple backwashes.

Thanks! Sounds like it’s not a big problem. I’ll check the O ring and the screws first before worrying about replacing anything. Glad it’s a common, fixable issue.

Adding to what Warren Dale mentioned, I once had a small drip caused by residual pressure trapped inside the housing after backwashing. When I opened the air relief briefly and made sure the valve was fully locked into the filter position, the dripping stopped. If it’s just a light drip that stops when the pump is off, it’s usually about seating and internal pressure, not a major crack.
