Could you outline the chemical steps for converting from chlorine to bromine including the initial flush and what to discard—because I’m struggling to avoid cross-reactions and I need help to do it safely?
I’ve switched from chlorine to bromine too. What I do safely: drain and flush, toss any chlorine tabs/feeder, clean/replace the filter, then refill set pH, add sodium bromide (the base for bromine), and do one shock while running the pump ±30 minutes. Don’t mix chlorine and bromine tabs in the same feeder it’s unsafe; if you want, I can help you double-check the doses
I just switched from chlorine to bromine too. Safe sequence: drain/flush, toss any chlorine tabs and the feeder, clean/replace the filter, refill, build a bromide bank with sodium bromide, then do one shock. Let the pump run to mix it well. Don’t put chlorine and bromine tabs in the same feeder that’s unsafe.
I just did this switch too. My safe sequence: drain & light flush, toss all chlorine tabs/feeder (don’t mix), clean/replace the filter, refill, set pH/TA, then build a bromide bank with sodium bromide and do one shock. Let the pump run to circulate. If you want, I can help double-check the dosing.
Thanks so much, Harper, Ella, and Michael the steps are crystal clear. I’ll drain & flush, toss any chlorine tabs/feeder, clean/replace the filter, refill, set pH/TA, add sodium bromide to build the bank, then do one shock and let the pump mix it. I won’t mix chlorine and bromine tabs. I might DM to double-check dosing really appreciate the help!
I’ve switched from chlorine to bromine too, and the steps are pretty much the same as mentioned. Drain and flush, toss the chlorine tabs, clean the filter, refill, set pH/TA, add sodium bromide, then do one shock. After that, just let the pump run to mix everything.
