The pool’s a disaster. Any quick fixes??

Went outside this morning & pool looks awful. Water’s murky, kind of greenish white? The pump wasn’t even running. Tried restarting it, nothing. The cover was half off, might’ve been wind, but I didn’t notice anything last night.

Also saw dead bugs, some leaves, and like foam?? I shocked it 3 days ago, so not sure what went wrong. Chlorine and pH were fine, then now I don't know.

Got ppl coming over tomorrow, and it’s a mess. Should I clean the filter or shock again, or both?? just need it to be swimmable for the weekend lol.

Definitely clean your filter first if it’s clogged, the pump won’t run properly and the water stays nasty. Then shock it again since the cover being off probably let in all kinds of debris and bacteria. Run the pump non-stop until it clears up. Should look better by tomorrow if the filter’s working right.

First thing I’d do is clean or backwash the filter, then see if the pump starts circulating again. If water’s still murky, hit it with another shock and leave the pump running overnight. Foam could be from organic junk breaking down. Skim out the bugs and leaves ASAP so they don’t clog things up worse.

Man, bad timing. Happened to me before a BBQ last month 😂. I cleaned the filter, shocked again, and ran the pump all night made a huge difference by morning. Also toss in a clarifier if you have one, it helps settle out the fine junk. You’ll probably be okay by tomorrow if you act fast.

I’d start by cleaning or backwashing the filter first. If the water’s still cloudy, I’d hit it with another shock and let the pump run overnight. That usually clears things up pretty fast.

If the pump wasn’t running at all, that’s probably the root of most of the chaos you’re seeing. When circulation stops even for half a day, debris starts breaking down and the sanitizer gets used up fast, especially if the cover blew partly off and let bugs and leaves drop in.

Before adding anything else, I’d focus on getting the pump actually moving water again. Check the pump basket and make sure it isn’t packed with leaves or bugs, and also make sure the pool water level hasn’t dropped below the skimmer. I’ve had the pump refuse to start just because it was pulling a bit of air instead of water.

Once you get it primed and running, watch the filter pressure for a bit. When my pool looked like that after a windy night, the pressure climbed about 5 psi pretty quickly because the filter was catching a ton of organic debris. I brushed the walls and floor while the pump was running so the filter could grab everything instead of letting it sit on the bottom.

The greenish white color usually means the sanitizer got overwhelmed when the circulation stopped, so once the water is moving again the cleanup tends to go much faster. Pools can look awful in the morning but bounce back pretty quickly once the system is actually filtering again.
