What’s your favorite backyard party memory?

Summer’s finally here and we just hosted our first backyard pool party of the season. Grilled some burgers, played music, and had a ton of fun with pool floats and volleyball.

Got me wondering what’s been the best part of your backyard parties? Whether it’s a big family BBQ, a night swim with friends, or just hanging out by the fire pit what’s your favorite memory or go-to activity when you host?

Let’s hear your backyard highlights!

Sounds like a blast Ryan. My favorite was a night swim party we did last August. We put floating LED lights in the pool and played chill music under the stars. Honestly one of the most relaxing nights we’ve had.

We had a taco bar and cornhole tournament at ours last month. Pool was full of kids the whole time and the adults took over the patio. Simple food but great vibes all around. Thinking of adding some string lights next time to make it feel cozier at night.

So, not like a wild party or anything, but we did this random backyard pizza night a couple of summers ago. My cousin brought this old little pizza oven thing he had, not even sure where it came from lol. We just started tossing stuff on dough and some combos worked, some... not so much 😅.

But it turned into everyone hanging around way longer than expected, someone grabbed a Bluetooth speaker, someone else ran home to grab board games, and we ended up playing cards at the patio table under this half-dead string of lights that kept flickering.

I don’t even remember what we talked about most of the time. Just remember laughing a lot and not wanting it to end. One of those nights you don’t plan, but somehow it just hits right.

For me, it was a ‘sunset BBQ challenge.’ We started grilling around sunset and tried to get the perfect timing for when the sun set, so we could all toast our burgers under that golden light. A little cheesy, but it turned out great! Anyone else ever try to ‘time’ your backyard meals with nature?

One of my favorite backyard party memories was a sunset BBQ we did last summer. Nothing fancy—just good food, some cold drinks, and a bunch of friends hanging out while the kids splashed around in the pool. We ended the night with s’mores around the fire pit and a little acoustic guitar. Simple, but one of those nights you just don’t forget.

Last year we did a movie night by the pool with a projector and a big sheet. Everyone brought floaties and snacks, and we watched a classic under the stars. It was super chill and ended up being one of those nights everyone still talks about.

One summer we turned our backyard into a ‘s’mores bar’ I strung fairy lights around the pergola, set up toppings station with caramel, berries, and crushed peanuts, then let everyone toast marshmallows over the firepit. Best part? Seeing Dad attempt a triple-layer s’more and laughing till our sides hurt!

I’ll never forget this one weekend BBQ during sunset. We were just hanging out, grilling burgers, and enjoying the view. Then, the kids jumped in the pool, and we ended up laughing the whole evening. It wasn’t anything fancy, just good vibes and great company. Sometimes, the most memorable nights are the ones that aren’t planned at all!

We tried adding a few plants near our pool, too, and while they made the space feel more tropical, the cleanup became tedious quickly. The small leaves and petals kept drifting into the water, which meant extra skimming every other day. I ended up moving most of them into pots a little further away, and that worked much better. I still got the greenery without the mess, right at the edge.

For me, it was a really low-key evening that wasn’t even meant to be a “party.” A few friends came over after work, someone brought leftover food, someone else showed up with a deck of cards, and we just ended up staying outside way longer than planned.

At some point the music got turned down, the pool lights were on, and people were either floating quietly or sitting on the edge with their feet in the water just talking about random life stuff. No schedule, no theme, no big setup. Just one of those nights where nobody was checking the time.

That’s usually what sticks with me the most, not the big events, but the ones where things slow down and you realize everyone’s actually relaxed and enjoying being there. Those nights are hard to recreate on purpose.

Mine wasn’t even a real party, which is probably why it stuck. We had a few people over thinking it would be a quick swim and dinner thing, then it just… kept going. Someone turned on the pool lights, someone else floated around with a drink, music stayed low enough that you could actually talk. No games, no schedule, nobody rushing to do anything.

The funny part is earlier that day I was annoyed because the water had gone a little dull after a heavy bather load the night before. pH had crept up and there was that faint sunscreen haze starting. I balanced it out, ran the filter a bit longer, and tossed in aquadoc non chlorine shock so the water felt clean without that strong chlorine smell. By the time people got in, the water was clear and comfortable, which made a bigger difference than any setup or decorations.

What I remember most is everyone staying in way longer than usual. Some floating quietly, some just standing around talking with their shoulders in the water. Nobody checking phones, nobody asking what’s next. It wasn’t planned, but it felt easy, and those are the nights that seem to stick the longest. Anyone else notice the best memories happen when you stop trying to make it a “thing” and just let it be a night?
