What’s your worst pool disaster?

Mine was when the vacuum hose popped and drained half my pool.
Oh man, I’ve had that happen too walked outside and the pump was sucking air because the hose slipped loose. Now I double-check every connection before I leave it running. It’s crazy how fast a pool can drain when something goes wrong.

That’s the worst feeling 😅. I tell people all the time secure those hoses tight and use hose clamps if needed. I’ve seen pools lose thousands of gallons from something as simple as a loose fitting. Glad you caught it before it drained all the way.

Yikes, I’d freak out seeing my water level drop like that. I always babysit my vacuum now after mine flipped over once and started sucking air. Pool ownership keeps you humble for sure 😂.

Mine was a slow-burn disaster rather than an instant one. I went away for a long weekend thinking everything was set perfectly. Came back to water that looked okay at first glance, but the steps and corners felt slick. Turns out the pump timer failed on day one and the pool basically sat still in summer heat for three days.

What made it worse was that I kept adding chlorine thinking it would “catch up,” not realizing circulation was the real issue. Ended up with cloudy water, clogged filter, and a chemistry mess that took way longer to fix than it should’ve. Lesson learned the hard way: moving water matters just as much as chemicals, and timers are not something to blindly trust.

Pool ownership definitely teaches patience… and paranoia.

Yeah, that can happen crazy fast. Stories like that made me paranoid about the vacuum hose too. Now I always check every connection before I turn the pump on, make sure the hose is tight and not hiding any small cracks. If needed, I use a clamp so it cannot slip loose as easily. Good thing you caught it before it drained all the way, it can get way worse if it runs longer.

Looking at John Miller comment, my experience has been pretty similar. Stuff like this seems minor until the water level drops fast. I usually check every connection before running anything again. If it’s caught early, it’s rarely a serious issue.
