Why does my filter pressure jump right after I clean it?

I cleaned my cartridge filter yesterday and put everything back the same way. When I turned the pump on the pressure was higher than before I cleaned it. I thought cleaning was supposed to lower the pressure not raise it. Did I mess something up?

Check that the cartridge is seated correctly. If it’s slightly crooked or the lid O ring isn’t lined up it can restrict flow.

Also make sure the cartridges are fully rinsed. Leftover cleaner or dirt stuck deep in the pleats can block water even if it looks clean.

That usually happens if air is trapped inside the filter. Try opening the air relief valve while the pump is running and see if the pressure drops.

I bled the air out and the pressure dropped right away. Looks like that was the issue. Glad I asked before taking it all apart again. Thanks everyone!

I’ve had the same thing happen. It ended up just being air trapped in the filter after cleaning. Once I bled it out using the air relief, the pressure dropped and went back to normal.
