Why does my hot tub foam up every time we use it?

Every time we get in the hot tub the water starts foaming on the surface. I used AquaDoc spa chemicals and the water tests look fine but the foam keeps showing up after a few minutes of running the jets. It is getting annoying and I do not know what is causing it.

Foam in hot tubs is usually caused by residues like body oils, lotions, soaps, or even detergents from swimsuits. Even if your chemical levels are fine, these contaminants lower the water’s surface tension and make bubbles stick around when the jets run. A quick fix is to use a spa defoamer and make sure everyone rinses off before getting in. Regularly cleaning or replacing filters and occasionally draining part of the water can also help keep foam under control.

I usually see foam come from body oils/soap. Have everyone do a quick rinse before getting in, hit it with a little defoamer when the jets run, and clean/check the filter. If it still sticks around, drain a bit and top off that’s what I do at home.

Foam’s usually from body oils/soaps and swimsuit detergent. I have everyone rinse off first, add a little defoamer when the jets run, and clean/check the filter. If it still hangs around, I drain part of the water and refill. Done.
