Why does my manual vacuum lose suction halfway through cleaning the pool?

Every time I vacuum my pool manually it starts out strong but loses suction halfway through. The hose stays connected and the pump is running fine. I usually have to stop shut everything off and start again just to finish cleaning. Not sure if this is an air leak, a clog or something else. Has anyone dealt with this?

Also check the vacuum head for debris stuck in the intake. Mine had a small piece of a leaf jammed in the slot and it kept slowing down the suction until I cleaned it out.

Check for tiny air leaks in the hose. Even a small pinhole will make the vacuum lose suction after a few minutes. You can test the hose by holding it underwater and looking for bubbles.

Your pump basket might be filling up faster than you think. Once it’s full the suction drops. I usually empty mine before vacuuming and then again halfway just in case.

Didn’t think about checking the hose underwater for bubbles. I’ll try that next time and clean the pump basket more often. Thanks for the tips!

I have dealt with this and most of the time it is air getting trapped in the hose or the filter slowly clogging as you vacuum, so I always make sure the hose is fully primed before starting and if suction fades halfway I stop to clean the filter, after fixing this and doing a proper clean with aquadoc pool filter cleaner my suction stayed consistent and I did not have to restart anymore.
