Why is my hot tub water foamy?

I just noticed my hot tub water has started getting foamy after a few uses. I’ve been keeping sanitizer levels up and changing the water regularly but the foam keeps building up after the jets run for a while. Is this from soaps or something else? What’s the best way to get rid of it without draining everything?

Check your total dissolved solids too. When TDS gets high it traps residue that turns into foam. A quick test can tell you if it’s time for a fresh fill. In the meantime add a splash of defoamer and skim off the bubbles.

I had this issue too. Even fabric softener on swimsuits can cause it. I switched to enzyme treatments and stopped using any laundry soap on spa gear. The foam went away completely after the next drain and refill.

That’s super common. Foam is usually caused by leftover detergent or body oils in the water. Try using a spa defoamer to break it down quickly but also rinse your suits without detergent next time. A water change might be needed if it’s been a while since your last one.

Thanks everyone! I’ll start with a defoamer and a deep clean then refill if it keeps happening. We’ve been using the tub more lately so the extra oils and detergent buildup could be the main reason.
